Serve Our Community
Jesus said in John 15:13 that the greatest display of love is laying down our lives for others. While we may never die for another, we can lay down our schedules, our comforts, our resources, and so much more, and Smithfield Christian Church is committed to doing just that.
These opportunities are some consistent ways we show love to our community.
Love in a Backpack
In America, 1 in 6 children may not know where they will get their next meal. For the 13 million kids in the U.S. facing hunger, getting the energy they need to learn and grow can be a day-in, day-out challenge.* Many of these children live in the Isle of Wight County school district. The Love in a Backpack program works to decrease the debilitating effects of child hunger in our area by providing nutritious and delicious meals for children in need.
Many students in Isle of Wight County participate in the Free and Reduced Price Lunch program during the school week, however, on the weekends, this program is not available. It is the goal of the Love in a Backpack program to help meet the nutritional needs of those students who may not have food on the weekends.
Hardy Elementary
Teachers and school workers are often overlooked and forgotten.
Through our partnership with Hardy Elementary, we work to show love and appreciation to the teachers and staff, as well as help with events and programs whenever possible. Keep an eye out for opportunities to serve throughout the year.
